Between parents asking about dyslexia, teachers using the term, and many states requiring universal screening for dyslexia, you likely want to ensure that educators in both general education and special education are ready to respond to questions about this term. When you think about your schools and teams, how prepared do you think they are? Here are some priorities we will be discussing during this session:
- Common, universal definition of the term dyslexia
- Ways for teams at the general education level to respond to concerns brought up about dyslexia
- Comprehensive evaluation processes should an assessment be requested
- Ways to document that the IEP team examined dyslexia
- Methods to respond when a parent requests a specific dyslexia-based intervention program

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenny Ponzuric and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenny, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I spent years working within the public school system, and while I loved working with students, families, and my site-specific staffs, I became increasingly passionate about ways to support schools beyond the ones I was assigned to. I had some great opportunities to create workshops for the district based on some of the work my school site teams and I had done. This fueled my desire to reach more schools and find more ways to make system-wide changes. The turning point came when the demand for my workshops generated considerable interest. I had more requests for workshops that I could fulfill while still working full-time. That’s when I knew it was time to take the leap and turn my mission into a full-fledged business, Ponzuric Learning Solutions. Starting this business allows me to reach a wider audience and empower educators across the states. My dream is to see students and families being supported by multiple systems in each school building.
