If you have an interview coming up — whether it’s for your internship, your first position, or a move to a new district — preparation can make a difference in how confident and grounded you feel walking into the (Zoom) room. The goal is to communicate clearly, think professionally, and show how you approach your work.
Here are two interview tips to help you show up strong.
Tip #1: Be ready for the last question
Many interviews end with: “Do you have any questions for us?”
This is not a throwaway moment. It’s an opportunity to show that you are thoughtful, engaged, and seriously considering the role — not just hoping to get an offer.
Come prepared with at least one or two questions. Think about questions that would help you determine if this district or position is the right fit for you.
Tip #2: When you don’t know the answer
At some point, you may be asked a question where your honest response is:
“I don’t have experience with that.”
Maybe you simply haven’t encountered that situation yet. What matters here is how you respond.
Be honest and don’t stop there. Show how you would learn, seek support, or problem-solve. When you explain the steps you would take to build competence, you are demonstrating self-awareness and a growth mindset.
Most interview teams don’t expect you to know everything. They want to see how you approach the unknown.
