Whether you are an intern or a seasoned psychologist, we have all asked ourselves, “Am I doing this right?” Whether you’re conducting an FBA, completing a bilingual evaluation, or explaining results in a way that benefits all members of the IEP team, all school psychologists want to be sure they are efficient and compliant and doing what’s right for students. Let’s talk more about this topic together! If you want to watch a replay of the live recording where I discuss these topics, please click here.
Shouldn’t I Know All the Answers About Bilingual Evaluations?
Do you find yourself questioning the process of how you complete bilingual evaluations? You may wonder if you have enough information. Or whether your evaluation is compliant. Perhaps you think about what could be missing from your evaluation or if there are additional assessments you can administer. If these thoughts have crossed your mind, you are not alone.
FBA and Behavior Plans – Oh My!
Conducting an FBA and creating a behavior plan is not something school psychs may practice on a regular basis. So when psychs are asked to conduct an FBA, it’s normal for a little doubt to kick in. Whether you are an intern or a psych with years of experience, you may wonder whether your evaluation is thorough or if other factors need to be considered. Or perhaps it’s been so long since you’ve done an FBA that you wonder if there is any new information out there that can make your evaluation more complete.
Explaining Results Succinctly
This is a skill I have consistently worked on for the 20 years I have been in the school psych field. I always want to make sure the information I present is meaningful and helpful to families and other members of the IEP team. After presenting assessment results, have you ever wondered if everyone understood the information? If the student was present, were they able to grasp the data you presented? What questions do you want to answer as you present assessment findings that will be useful to the IEP team and the student’s success?
