Whether you’re already back in the swing of things or still enjoying those last moments of summer break, these strategies will set you up for success. Let’s jump right in! Tip 1: Tackle Procrastination Head-On
We’ve all been there – putting off those pesky tasks until the last minute. This year, let’s break that cycle! Take time today and reflect on what you procrastinated on last school year. Was it report writing, student observations, or maybe parent calls? Let’s make a change and be proactive! Try to schedule those tasks into your calendar now. If report writing is your Achilles’ heel, allocate specific time for it. Or, if you tend to delay student observations, mark a regular day each week for you to complete them. By addressing procrastination early, you’ll stay on track and avoid last-minute stress.
Tip 2: Embrace Curiosity and Ask Questions
Whether you’re a seasoned school psychologist or a fresh face in the field, asking questions is key to growth. Remember, there’s no shame in seeking guidance! Are you new to your school or district? Inquire about procedures, roles, and responsibilities. Wondering who handles what within your team? Ask for clarity. This is your chance to enhance your understanding and improve collaboration. Don’t hesitate to attend meetings or shadow colleagues – every experience contributes to your expertise. And remember, you’re not alone in asking, “Am I doing this right?” Connect with trusted colleagues or bring up your queries at staff meetings. Keep the dialogue flowing.
Tip 3: Strengthen Team Connections
As the new school year kicks off, seize the opportunity to foster strong relationships within your team. Communication is key, whether you’re reuniting with familiar faces or meeting new team members. If you’re new, inquire about successful practices from the previous year. Identify any areas that could use improvement and keep an open mind. For those returning to a reliable team, celebrate your collective accomplishments and evaluate what’s working well. Also, address any challenges that emerge and brainstorm solutions together. If necessary, create an anonymous feedback system to encourage honest input. Remember, teamwork makes the dream work, so ensure everyone is on the same page.
